Training
To be aware of the safety rules for operating the ribbon-cutting machine in three minutes.
This statement is problematic because it does not include a performance objective; being "aware" of the rules is not the same as applying those rules. Furthermore, it sounds like the trainee is supposed to become aware of the safety rules in three minutes. Is that what is intended, or is it intended to say that the ribbon cutting machine should be operated in three minutes?
Given a personal computer, a table and a chair, enter the data into a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet.
The performance is "enter the data into a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet," but there are no criteria. Enter what data? How much data? How fast?
Use the World Wide Web to learn about training practices.
The performance criterion is to use the Web. However, the remainder of the statement is too vague. What training practices, and learn what, specifically, about them? There should be some measurable objective.
4. Given a street address in the city of Dublin, Ohio, be able to drive the ambulance from the station to the address in less than 10 minutes.
It is unnecessary to say "be able to drive," and preferable to say "drive," as that is the objective.
Part Two
1. Obey the safety rules that pertain to the ribbon-cutting machine, and cut ribbon using the machine in three minutes or less.
2. Enter financial data into the Microsoft Excel spreadsheet accurately, at a rate of one hundred entries per hour, when an appropriate workstation is provided.
3. Gather information from the World Wide Web in the form of bookmarks and links pertaining to training practices.
4. Drive an ambulance from the station to any address in the Dublin city limits in less than ten minutes, when the address is provided ahead of time.
